SALAR JUNG MUSEUM: PLACE FOR ANCIENT MASTERSTROKES

Salar Jung museum is considered one of the largest museums in our country. It is built by the Salar Estate Committee in the year 1951 and is famous for its Quran collection. It is situated on the southern bank of Musi River, Hyderabad, and even today, hundreds of people visit this museum daily. So, let’s fraternize with this marvelous masterpiece today.

SALAR JUNG MUSEUM HISTORY: This entire museum’s collections are purely gathered by a single person whose name is Meer Usaf Ali Khan. He was very intelligent and wise. So, the 6th Nawab of the Nijam family awarded him with the title Salar Jung-3 (Salar Jung 1 and Salar Jung 2 titles were held by Ali Khan’s father and grandfather) and offered him to serve as the president under his majesty. Ali Khan accepted this offer but due to some reasons, he left the mahal and started touring the entire world.

It is then he started gathering all the ancient pieces of his liking on his journey. He toured America, Venice, Belgium, Istanbul, etc, and collected more than 40,000 art and antique pieces. And after Ali Khan’s death, Salar Estate Committee took the responsibility for these artforms and established this museum oh his name. Afterward, the Indian government recognized it as one of the prominent museums and its maintenance responsibility in its hands.
This museum has 39 galleries in total, dividing into Eastern, Western, and Central parts.

Over 14,000 objects are on display through these galleries. It has a collection of over 46,000 art objects, 8000 manuscripts, and over 16,000 printed books. It has collections of Persian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Nepalese, and even western art. The visit timings are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
