Charminar is a square-structured monument with four minarets built out of granite and lime mortar. It was predominantly constructed by Indo-Islamic architectural style with the inclusion of Persian ornamentation. Moreover, it is well known for its fluidity and the panoramic view of Hyderabad it can lay out for tourists and viewers. It was constructed by the 5th Nizam Sultan of the Qutub Shah dynasty namely Muhammed Quli Qutub Shah in the year 1591. However, there were several theories behind its construction. One of them was that Quli Qutub Shah built Charminar as a commemoration for the eradication of the deadly plague which caused massive human loss at that time. So, it was believed that Qutub Shah took an oath to Islam to build a monument cum mosque if the disease discards and built this monument. The mosque of the Charminar will be on top of the construction. Another famous theory was that Charminar was constructed as a remark for the second Islamic millennium year.

However, the strategic construction of Charminar serves as an intersection of the historical trade route between port cities of Machilipatnam and Golkonda market. Even the structure was brilliant with its great stucco work and it consists of two galleries, one on top of the other. And over them, it comes with a stone balcony. The free space in the main gallery on top is meant for Friday prayers. So, it’s better to visit Charminar on weekdays except for Friday as it is a prayer time for Muslims and heavy crowds gather to participate in it.

The exact location is Pattergatti Road, Charminar, Hyderabad.

Entry fee: Rs.25 for Adults, Rs.300 for foreigners, and free for children below 15 years of age.

Timings: Every day from 9:30 a.m to 5:30 p.m
