Sign up for a chance to tell a story or sit back and enjoy the show! Tonight’s theme is CHANGE MAKERS. \nCHANGE MAKERS prepare five-minute story of change. The power of rebellion\, renewal\, or ridding a system of evil. Either macro or micro\, tell us about a moment of complete transformation\, progression\, regression. A call to arms or a call to action\, share a story of change\, courage\, and the power of resistance. \nWe want to hear about the times you stood up\, showed up\, or spoke out for your city\, your neighborhood\, or community. Whether you rallied neighbors to save a park\, canvassed for a cause\, or spoke up at a tense town hall meeting. Organizing\, protesting\, volunteering\, or simply refusing to stay silent\, tell us about the times where you discovered you had the power to make change. \nThis is about the heart of the city and the heart it takes to change it. Share moments of resilience\, rebellion\, and everyday heroism: participating in a demonstration\, planting a tree\, saving a historic landmark\, reimagining a block\, rebuilding after disaster\, or rallying a community to demand change. We want to hear about the courage\, grit\, and persistence that shape the future of our built environment. \nProgram Schedule\nDoors Open at 6pm\nShow Starts at 7pm \nExhibitions on the first floor will be open from 6 to 7pm. \nHow it Works  \nWhen the doors open\, storyteller hopefuls put their names in The Moth “hat.” A half hour later\, names are picked\, and one by one\, storytellers take the stage. The ten featured stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience. Each StorySLAM generates a StorySLAM winner. After ten SLAMs\, the winners face off in a GrandSLAM Championship. Come sign up to tell a story or just enjoy the show!  \nSeating is not guaranteed and is available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Please be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before the show. Admission is not guaranteed for late arrivals. All sales final. We will not be selling any tickets at the door. \nA special thank you to our sponsors Amazon\, Room & Board\, and Capital One. The Moth StorySLAM DESCRIPTION:The Moth StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition in which anyone can share a true\, personal\, 5-minute story on the night’s theme. Sign up for a chance to tell a story or sit back and enjoy the show!   \nTonight’s theme is NEIGHBORHOODS.   \nPrepare a five-minute story about communities. How does the design of your neighborhood create the backdrop for human connection? The nosy grandma two doors down\, boisterous kids on the stoop\, block parties that turn streets into gathering spaces. What places set the rhythm of your community? The playground down the block\, the local corner store\, the church up the street. From glass houses with nothing to hide to parking spot battles on overcrowded streets\, the way we build shapes how we collide\, connect\, and coexist. Think about noise bleeding through shared walls—or your soulmate living just a few feet away.   \nSeating is not guaranteed and is available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Please be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before the show.   \nDoors Open at 6:00pm   \nProgram Starts at 7:00pm   \nProgram Ends 9:00pm  \nExhibitions on the first floor will be open from 6-7 pm  \nHow it Works  \nWhen the doors open\, storyteller hopefuls put their names in The Moth “hat.” A half hour later\, names are picked\, and one by one\, storytellers take the stage. The ten featured stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience. Each StorySLAM generates a StorySLAM winner. After ten SLAMs\, the winners face off in a GrandSLAM Championship. Listen to stories\, sing songs\, and more. \nStorytime is FREE and packed full of reading\, songs\, and activities designed to promote language and literacy skills! Story themes vary weekly but relate to current exhibitions at the museum.     \nAbout DCPL Outreach and Inclusion  \nThe Outreach & Inclusion Department embeds and expands library services beyond library walls. From story times to digital literacy\, we seek to increase the library’s impact through community informed collaborations in order to reach all District residents.
